Microsoft Project is the world’s best-selling scheduling tool but intriguingly it is not the world’s most popular tool for planning and managing projects. Amazingly there are more people using Microsoft Excel to manage projects than there are users of Microsoft Project.

I have met some people who insist that Microsoft Excel is perfectly adequate for managing projects which then begs the question why would Microsoft develop Project if Excel is good enough for the job? The simple answer is that a lot of people are either intimated by or unaware of the existence of Microsoft Project and how it can benefit them in their role as a Project Manager.
